Happy New Year - 12/30/19
Hello friends and family!
I hope your Christmas went well and you are looking forward to the new year!
As I am sure many of you already have this on your mind now is the time of year to set goals. What do I want to accomplish in 2020? Who do I want to become? As we reflect these questions it is easy to make simple goals, try them out for a few weeks, forget about them and move on. I know of this process very well as that has been how I have looked at resolutions my entire life. But as I have been on the mission my mindset has changed.
Preach my gospel talks about the importance of goals. As a missionary if you aren't setting goals you really aren't accomplishing anything. It becomes very easy to plateau. It goes through how to set goals the most effective way possible, number one being always involve God.
2nd Nephi 27:23 says "For behold, I am God; and I am a God of miracles; and I will show unto the world that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and I work not among the children of men save it be according to their faith." God IS a God of miracles, so is there really anything we can't accomplish? Obviously within reason with God anything is possible. God will always magnify our efforts and as we include Him in this process of setting goals not only do we have His divine help but we also are accountable to Him which is a very good constant reminder of the goals we have set.
This week Sister Haji and I set some big weekly goals but have also focused on setting daily goals. One day we wanted to have at minimum 5 contacts. (Talking to at least 5 people). We had a busy day with hardly any finding time and by 8:55pm we had only talked to 2 people. We started to head home when we remembered we needed to get gas. We stopped and filled up and our receipt didn't print. So we went inside and asked if we could get it printed. He said it would take 2 minutes so we stepped to the side as there were other people there when I got the thought "your people are here". Suddenly we started talking to everyone around us and in the 2 minutes it took to print the receipt we talked to 3 people accomplishing our goal of 5.
The next night we had our goal of 5 contacts along with our daily goal of 5 SOLID contacts (meaning we not only talk but we share a scripture and teach a principle.) We had 4 hours of finding that day so we weren't worried until our service ran long and we only had 2 hours. So we set out to finding and first complex we had 3 contacts and one solid contact. Second complex we were about to leave but decided to stay a minute longer and as we took two steps away from our car someone appeared out of nowhere and we were able to talk, share a scripture, and get phone numbers. 3rd complex I had actually passed while we were driving thinking we should go somewhere else when God told me very abruptly to turn around. We shared scriptures and principles with 2 people and had another contact. So it is 8:40pm and we have 4 contacts and 4 solid contacts. We stopped at our church to pray and felt very strongly to go to a complex I really didn't like going to. There have been some situations that have been very uncomfortable and somewhat dangerous so we avoid going there especially at night. But, God was persistent so we went. I felt the prompting to go to a certain door (one we knew) and there we talked to the lady who lived there for so long about God, her worth, faith, and prayer. We read scriptures with her, prayed with her, and testified of God's love. We left so happy because we had gotten 5 solid contacts but realized we only had 4 other contacts. As we walked to our car to head home we turned the corner and saw a moving truck. We booked it over and started talking to this man. Suddenly another man appears and we had a really good conversation with both of them. We left accomplishing both of our goals.
God WILL magnify your efforts. You can accomplish anything with His help. He is there guiding you and helping you in every way possible. He loves you! Allow Him to help you. He will give you the strength to overcome any obstacle in your path. Trust Him and I promise your efforts with be magnified and you will accomplish whatever you set out to do this coming year.
I love you all!! Sorry for the long email!!❤
