Another Week Gone By - 1/20/20
Hi friends and family!
South Phoenix is a party! Lots of crazy things happening but there are so many people to teach. We have had a ton of great conversations and have someone on date for baptism!! Hopefully putting two more people on date this week. God is so good!
My new companion is Sister Miner. She is from Utah and has been on the mission just one more transfer than me. She also did 2 years of college before a mission, we are both 21 turning 22 this year, and did a lot of sports growing up. We have a lot more in common I just don't want to type it out. :) She is honestly the best! We get along so well. We are staying in a house with 2 companionships of Hermanas. There are only 6 sisters total in the Phoenix zone and we all live together! They used to have apartments but it got really dangerous so we have a really nice house now.
Ok, spiritual thought for this week. 😊
I have learned a lot in my studies this week. One of my favorite talks I have ever read is "The Transforming Power of Faith and Character" by Richard G. Scott. I may have referenced this talk before, but it is just so good! What stood out to me this time was this quote, "We become what we want to be by consistently being what we want to become each day. Righteous character is a precious manifestation of what you are becoming. Righteous character is more valuable than any material object you own, any knowledge you have gained through study, or any goals you have attained no matter how well lauded by mankind. In the next life your righteous character will be evaluated to assess how well you used the privilege of mortality."
I realized very quickly that I could study every day of my mission, set goals, accomplish them, but if everything I do doesn't in turn fortify my character into a representative of Jesus Christ then it in a way doesn't matter. God's work will happen in one way shape or form, He will do His work in His timing, but do I recognize the privilege and opportunity to strengthen and develop my character while helping Him accomplish His work? Every day, as I strive to do better and be better I need to recognize how my character is being built, how I am coming closer to my Savior, and how I can do it all better tomorrow. I promise that as you recognize opportunities to strengthen your character you will develop a deeper relationship with God and Jesus Christ. You will feel the activating power that comes from our Saviors atoning sacrifice being applied to your life.
I love you all! I'll send some pics of my new comp!
